Shed porn

Blogs always look better with a photo at the top, so here's an entirely opportunistic photo of the shed I've been building at the bottom of the garden. I've said it before, but I'll say it again: Yes, this does have tenuous links to the allotment.

People in the office have been asking why it's taken such a long time - I started last August. Now they can see the answer. It's not because the shed is particularly complicated or flashy. It's because I'm a tedious detail-monkey. Yes, those are fully working sash windows. Yes, I did make them myself. Yes, all the shiplap is screwed in place, not nailed.

Anyway, now it's all done apart from the paint job (to be painted in Holkham linseed oil paint, colour 'parchment') and some barge boards to go round the roof. I've been scouring the neighbourhood for designs in the vernacular. If I can work out how, I'll take some photos and host a poll here for what gets built.

Ohhh, it is beautiful. Now I have shed envy. The one my dad built for us is huge, and a wonderful shed for an allotment but no where near as pretty as yours.
You will never beleive it but since reading about your egg I have found one! It was in the bath that we had the radish in. Now this soil had been riddled by my husband so I know it didn't come in on the compost, I guess it is a hens egg and my only thought would be a fox buried it before the radish grew, I found it when I dug up all the radish to plant carrots. Bizzarre. Oh and one last thing, I obviously have very little imagination as you were the original "Our Allottment" ;-)!

What a wonderful shed! Now you can have your very own 'sanctum sanctorum' to shut the door and contemplate life! Make sure you have a very good lock on the door, people break into sheds and steal stuff to sell at car boot sales.

It's got a five lever mortice lock and it's hiding in the corner of the garden, not unprotected on teh allotment. Maybe I should fit an alarm?

That is an impressive shed. We had a shed competition at work a few months ago. That would be a definate contender. I think our winner had solar pannels and curtains...

What a beautiful shed! Nicely done. It sounds like it will last forever!

A beauty.
What is it with sheds? They seem to stir more emotion than most houses?! Is it primal man's desire to build shelter and gain independence from the rat race? Even if they take it all away from you, you can still live in the shed!
